To be good at anything….. gratitude included, you have to practice. ARISTOTLE once said “You are what you repeatedly do.”
The key to that sentence lies in the word REPEATEDLY. The problem with this, is most of us will repeat something for a few days, but when we don’t see immediate results….. we give up because we don’t think it’s working. According to Harvard graduate, and past President of the International Mind, Brain and Education Society, DR. MARC SCHWARTZ….. “We underestimate how much practice something takes.” …..even gratitude. I can tell you from 1st hand experience….. This is TRUE! Some days it’s easy and some days, it’s just down right HARD….. especially NOW in a world full of things we never expected.
Think of your brain connections like a road through a pasture. Your brain has approximately 100 BILLION neurons….. yes BILLION and it is making connections with every single thought you have. When you’ve done something multiple times, (GOOD OR BAD) your brain will use that same pathway again, rather than wasting valuable energy forming new connections. Once a connection is made….. your brain has a pathway for it….. but it’s up to you to PRACTICE using that connection over and over again if you want to keep it! So….. today, do yourself and your brain a FAVOR.
Practice gratitude with consistency.
