Just For Today

Just For Today

Sometimes it feels like we’re living in a world that continues to go from one form of negative… straight into another. Just as we begin to come out into the open, the world slams us down again.

Our tendency during times like this is to AVOID PAIN (both physical and emotional) at all cost. However, most of us aren’t unaware that each time we focus on what we DON’T want and DON’T like, we’re actually BUILDING AND CREATING emotionally charged pathways in our brain.

What if….. just for today, we stopped trying to AVOID pain, and we tried to look at the world through the eyes of another?

What if….. we realized that our life’s experiences have guided us toward our belief system, and someone else’s life has guided them toward theirs.

What if….. today we thought MORE about what we loved rather than what we despise?

AND…… What if today….. we offered encouragement and kindness to someone we might never have before, while also EXPECTING nothing in return!

In an excerpt from a 2019 article in PyschCentral by Therese J. Borchard, she discusses what ENCOURAGEMENT does to the HUMAN BRAIN citing research from Dr. Andrew Newberg, M.D. and Mark Robert Waldman where they say, “By holding a positive and optimistic [word] in your mind, you stimulate frontal lobe activity. And, as our research has shown, the longer you concentrate on positive words, the more you begin to affect other areas of the brain.

I challenge each of today….. to find someone out there and SPEAK words of encouragement into their lives! BECAUSE….. not only are you changing their life, you’re also changing your brain!
